Carmelo Anthony is signing with the Los Angeles Lakers, agreeing to a one-year contract to join LeBron James, Anthony Davis and Russell Westbrook for the 2021-’22 NBA season.

Anthony, longtime friends with LeBron, was floated as a Lakers’ free-agent target before the offseason. On the second day of NBA free agency, per ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski, the two sides agreed to a one-year deal.

Anthony, who spent the past two seasons with the Portland Trail Blazers, will provide perimeter shooting and depth at the four in Los Angeles.

A 10-time All-Star selection, the 37-year-old forward has been looking for an opportunity to join the Lakers for years. Following the blockbuster trade for Westbrook, significant minutes opened up for him.

After losing out on Patty Mills, who signed with the Brooklyn Nets, the Lakers responded quickly by signing Anthony and guard Malik Monk.
