Los Angeles Dodgers recall Edwin Uceta, put Edwin Rios on IL

Less than a week after Edwin Uceta made his major league debut and was quickly sent back down, the Los Angeles Dodgers recalled the right-hander on Tuesday.

The 23-year-old will take the roster spot of infielder Edwin Rios, who was placed on the injured list due to right shoulder inflammation.

Uceta started and pitched two innings in his debut Friday against the Milwaukee Brewers, giving up a two-run home run to Jackie Bradley Jr. while taking the loss in a 3-1 defeat.

The Dodgers are down a starting pitcher after right-hander Dustin May was lost for the season with an elbow injury that will require Tommy John surgery.

Rios, 27, has struggled to start the season, managing just four hits in 51 at-bats (.078) through 25 games. He hit eight home runs in 32 regular-season games last year and has 13 home runs with 26 RBIs in 85 career games going back to 2019.
