Los Angeles Angels third baseman Anthony Rendon has found himself in hot water with MLB after an altercation with an Oakland Athletics fan following the team’s opening night loss Thursday.

The MLB world opened their 2023 regular season campaigns yesterday, including the Los Angeles Angels and Oakland Athletics. The American League West rivals began their years Thursday being one of the few evening games on the Opening Day slate. In the matchup, Angeles superstar Shohei Ohtani shined, but LA blew a one-run lead late and dropped their season opener 2-1.

However, after the game came to a close, it seems that one-time All-Star Anthony Rendon still had a bit of fight left in him and wanted to air some grievances with a particular Oakland fan that he had issues with.

On Thursday, a video made its way online that shows the Los Angeles Angels infielder and his teammates making their way toward the tunnel leading away from the dugout. Rendon calls a fan over and grabs him by the jersey and asks them, “You called me a b**** huh?” The fan denies it, but Rendon seems to fully believe he has in his grasp the individual that offended him earlier in the night. The video can be seen below.

The moment only lasts a few seconds, but before it ends, Anthony Rendon seems to take a swipe at the man’s head as he is pulling away. That final escalation of the situation has likely gotten the Los Angeles Angels player in serious trouble with the league.

On Friday, ESPN reported that MLB is now investigating the incident with Rendon on Thursday night. “We are aware of the video and we are now looking into the matter,” the league said in a statement.

The Angels declined to comment on the situation but did reveal Rendon was expected to speak with media about it on Saturday before their next game against the Athletics.
