Los Angeles Angels acquire Hunter Strickland from Rays

The Los Angeles Angels acquired right-handed relief pitcher Hunter Strickland from the Tampa Bay Rays on Saturday in exchange for a player to be named later or cash considerations.

Strickland owns a 1.69 ERA in 13 appearances for the Rays this season. He has recorded 16 strikeouts against just six walks over 16 innings pitched.

Tampa Bay selected Strickland’s contract on April 9 after starting out as a non-roster invitee to spring training. Before 2021, he spent the first seven seasons of his career with the San Francisco Giants, Seattle Mariners, Washington Nationals and New York Mets. He won the 2019 World Series as a member of Washington’s bullpen.

Strickland, 32, is 16-16 for his career with 21 saves, a 3.14 ERA, a 1.209 WHIP and 249 strikeouts in 269 2/3 innings of work.

The Angels are in Boston for a series with the Red Sox.
