Lions announce Matt Patricia as new head coach

As expected, the Detroit Lions have named former New England Patriots defensive coordinator Matt Patricia their next head coach.

The organization announced the move on Monday, a day after Super Bowl LII.

“When we launched the search for our next head coach, I wanted to find a leader that could take us to the next level and I am confident we have found that in Matt Patricia,” Bob Quinn said, per the statement. “He has been preparing for this opportunity his entire career, and he’s ready for the responsibility and its challenges.

“Matt is driven to succeed, has extreme passion for the game and excels in preparation. He embodies the same hard-working, blue-collar attributes that represent our organization and the great City of Detroit.”

Patricia has been the defensive coordinator for Bill Belichick since 2012. He has been with New England as a coach since 2004, winning three Super Bowls with the clu. Before that, Patricia eight years as a graduate assistant and defensive coordinator at the collegiate level.

Notably, Patricia is also a legitimate rocket scientist and is touted around NFL circles as one of the most intelligent people in the business.
