It remains to be seen if LeBron James is going to hit NBA free agency. The four-time champion and all-time great will likely decline his option for next season before the market opens up. Recent reports suggest that he’ll re-sign with the Los Angeles Lakers.

But until that happens, all options remain on the table. James, 39, continues to play at a high level. This past season saw him average 25.7 points, 7.3 rebounds and 8.3 assists per game. If he does indeed hit the open market, the number of teams interested in King James will not be limited.

We’re now hearing a bit more on this. According to Brian Windhorst of ESPN, the Philadelphia 76ers are a threat to sign James should he hit the free agent market.

We know that Philadelphia is casting a wide net in its attempt to find a third star to team up with Joel Embiid and Tyrese Maxey. We also know that front office head Daryl Morey is targeting a wing. James more than qualifies.

Philadelphia has been linked to the likes of Paul George with free agency set to open in just over a month. But James’ potential involvement in the open market could very well change the dynamics.

It’s been noted several times that James prefers remaining on the west coast. Though, competing for an NBA title is his ultimate goal as the all-time great closes up shop on his career.

Right now, the Lakers can’t be seen as contenders. They lost to the Denver Nuggets in the first round of the NBA Playoffs, fired head coach Darvin Ham and lack the necessary talent behind the duo of LeBron James and Anthony Davis. Philly could very well offer up the opportunity to compete.
