A pair of reports reveals the expected direction the Washington Commanders will go in next month’s NFL Draft, and which quarterback prospect they are likely to take if they hold on to the selection.

The top pick in the 2024 NFL Draft seems like a lock. After the Chicago Bears traded away from first-round pick Justin Fields last week, there is no reason to believe they won’t use the top overall pick on USC star Caleb Williams.

However, after that, it is far less guaranteed. The Washington Commanders and New England Patriots have the next picks and both franchises need a QB. Drake Maye and Jayden Daniels are seen as the next best options at the position and Washington will get first dibs on either. However, there is a plethora of teams around the league that would love to get that opportunity.

On Saturday, ESPN NFL insider Jeremy Fowler reported that the organization is still going through the scouting process to make a firm decision on which player they will take, but “they are getting calls, inquiries about the No. 2 pick from teams potentially moving up” still.

While he believes it is likely they will hold on to the pick, the upcoming pro days for Maye and Daniels could decide if they trade down and get more draft assets.

If the organization does stand pat, Sports Illustrated league insider Albert Breer claimed this week that 2023 Heisman Trophy winner “Jayden Daniels is probably the leader in the clubhouse to be a Commander.” The LSU star has been a favorite for weeks to be the second QB taken off the board and some believe he may be a better NFL prospect than the USC Trojans QB.
