Phoenix Suns reportedly could have Kevin Durant back in lineup very soon

The Phoenix Suns reportedly could have their top player back in the lineup just in time to try and build a little chemistry ahead of the start of the NBA Playoffs.

The Phoenix Suns made the biggest splash at the NBA trade deadline when they swung a blockbuster deal that netted them disgruntled future Hall-of-Famer Kevin Durant. However, the superstar scorer was out with a knee injury when he was traded and needed several weeks before he eventually made his debut for the team.

But after getting back on the floor his time to gel with his new teammates was short-lived. Following three games in a Suns uniform, Kevin Durant injured his ankle in warmups before a March 8 matchup with the Oklahoma City Thunder and was again forced to the sidelines for several weeks.

Phoenix Suns record (’22-’23): 38-34

The Suns have gone 2-5 in the seven games he has missed and have fallen in the NBA Playoff pecking order. Heading into the weekend, the team is just two games away from needing to compete in the Play-In Tournament. Something they would like to avoid.

On Friday, The Athletic’s NBA insider Shams Charania revealed a major update on Durant and it is really good news for the Phoenix Suns as they look to finish the season strong and stay out of the Play-In tourney.

“Phoenix Suns’ 13-time All-Star Kevin Durant (sprained ankle) is progressing toward a potential return to action on Wednesday vs. Minnesota Timberwolves, barring any setback.”

The Phoneix Suns have 10 games left on their schedule, and things will be difficult for the team down the stretch as they face eight teams likely bound for the playoffs in 2023.
