Kevin Durant on Mark Cuban: ‘He’s an idiot’

After the Oklahoma City Thunder were able to close out their first-round playoff series against the Dallas Mavericks on Monday, the team’s top players spoke to the media to discuss the series that was, among other hot topics.

One of the most talked about topics had nothing to do with the five-game series that had just ended in a Thunder win.

Instead, it was all about what Dallas Mavericks owner Mark Cuban said earlier in the day, indicating that Thunder guard Russell Westbrook isn’t a super star.

Former NBA MVP and current Thunder teammate Kevin Durant stood up for Westbrook in the post-game presser, simply calling Cuban an idiot:

Set to become a free agent, it’s interesting that Durant would go out of his way to call out the owner of a team that has not been afraid to throw money at elite-level talent on the open market.

Though, we have to give Durant a ton of credit here. As you can see in the video embedded above, Durant put his hand over Westbrook’s mic in a way to tell the Thunder guard that he’s got his back.

Instead of Westbrook providing a soundbite in direct response to Cuban, it was Durant that took the hit. That’s real teamwork right there.

With Dallas now out of the way, Oklahoma City will take on the San Antonio Spurs in the conference semifinals. It’s another chance for Russ to prove to all of his skeptics (apparently they exist) that he is a super star.
