Denver Broncos star Kareem Jackson receives 4-game suspension for unnecessary roughness

Denver Broncos veteran defensive back Kareem Jackson has made more news than he’d like this season. It has nothing to do with his performance on the field.

That continued on Sunday when Jackson was ejected in Denver’s win over the Green Bay Packers for a hit on tight end Luke Musgrave.

As ESPN’s Adam Schefter notes, the NFL has opted to suspend Jackson a whopping four games for this latest violation of the league’s player-safety rule. It’s the longest suspension a player has received under this umbrella since Vontaze Burfict (12 games) and Myles Garrett (six games) were suspended back in 2019.

Jackson is planning on appealing the suspension.

A first-round pick of the Houston Texans out of Alabama back in 2010, Jackson had received $90,000 in total fines for four separate unnecessary roughness penalties leading up to Week 7.

Kareem Jackson stats (2023): 42 tackles, 3 passes defended, 2 INT

NFL: Denver Broncos at Chicago Bears

Jackson’s suspension is noteworthy for a couple reasons. First off, he’s helped Denver defense rebound big time after it gave up 70 points to the Miami Dolphins earlier in ths season. The defensive back has yielded just 128 passing yards through seven games this season.

Secondly, Jackson’s name has been bandied about in the lead up to the Oct. 31 NFL trade deadline with the 2-5 Broncos clearly looking like sellers roughly one week out. It will be interesting to see what comes of a potential appeal.
