While the Kansas City Chiefs plan to tag star cornerback L’Jarius Sneed and hopefully agree to a new contract, there is a real chance they could trade him. And the return in a potential deal has been revealed by one notable NFL insider.

One of the biggest storylines heading into this offseason for the Chiefs is the future of star cornerback L’Jarius Sneed. Over his first four seasons in the league, the 27-year-old has risen to become one of the premiere players at his position and was an anchor of the championship Kansas City defense this past season.
With the defensive back set to become a free agent, many expected a likely bidding war to land the fourth-round pick in the 2020 NFL Draft. However, earlier this week it was reported that the organization informed him they would use their franchise tag for 2024 on him in the hopes of hammering out a new long-term deal.

Sneed has made it clear he wants to be paid like a star corner and is likely to drive a hard bargain. That is why it is very possible the team could trade him, and recent rumors suggest the Chiefs are open to that option. The next big question is what could the team get back in a deal for one of the better players at an important position on defense?
On Tuesday, Bleacher Report NFL insider Jordan Schultz revealed what that might be for an organization that will be picking at the end of every round in the 2024 NFL Draft — and it would be a solid return.

“What type of value does L’Jarius Sneed have on the open market and what does it look like for him if the Chiefs pull the trigger and trade him? I had a text from an assistant GM about 10 minutes ago who said he thought Sneed could command, potentially, a second-round pick. And if you think about that and where the Chiefs are drafting each year that would be really valuable to Kansas City.”
Schultz claims re-signing star pass rush Chris Jones is the team’s top priority this offseason with Sneed being next. It will be interesting to see how they handle the next few weeks. The franchise tag for a cornerback in 2024 is $19.8 million.
