It seems that growing problems between superstars Josh Allen and Stefon Diggs were the reason for the drama this week at the Buffalo Bills minicamp.

This was a very weird week in the early stages of the Buffalo Bills 2023 campaign. After what was a fairly quiet offseason where they made few impact moves, the team made headlines on Tuesday when the team’s head coach, Sean McDermott, revealed “concern” about Stefon Diggs’ relationship with the team.

The Pro Bowler had left practice far earlier than expected that day and his teammates were vague when asked for the reasons behind his early departure. However, things quickly changed the following day when Diggs was back at practice and seemed in a good mood despite the awkwardness the day before.

At a media scrum after Wednesday’s practice, McDermott claimed the apparent issues from the day before had been “resolved.” While the problems with Diggs may have been cleared up, at least for now, it seems they were quite serious and were between the Buffalo Bills’ top players.

Stefon Diggs stats (2022): 108 catches, 1,429 yards, 11 touchdowns

On a Thursday edition of ESPN’s “Get Up,” NFL insider Jeremy Fowler reported on the situation between Diggs and the Bills and what was the real source of the cloud of doom around the team earlier this week.

“I’m hearing the Bills are hopeful they resolved this. Tuesday was described to me as tense. [The] Bills had some closed-door meetings to try to sort this out. Wednesday was described to me as normal. Everybody felt like they were in a decent spot. … But what has been told to me the last few months, multiple times, is that Josh Allen and Stefon Diggs had to have a conversation. That their dynamic was off coming out of the year. This is not believed to be a contractual issue, [Diggs is] not expected to get traded.”

While the problem seems to be squashed for now, considering Stefon Diggs’ past of forcing his way out of a city and the natural emotional nature of star receivers, this will definitely be a situation to watch in the months ahead.
