Houston Astros second baseman Jose Altuve spent Opening Day being honored alongside his teammates at Minute Maid Park as they celebrated their World Series title. On that same day, four burglars allegedly broke into his home and stole more than $1 million worth of jewelry.
The Houston Police Department announced on May 5 that it had charged four suspects with felony crimes stemming from a March 30 burglary of Altuve’s residence. While Altuve was at the ballpark with his family and teammates, three men and one woman allegedly entered his home and stole $1 million worth of jewelry and watches.
According to an arrest affidavit obtained by The Houston Chronicle, Altuve left his home early that afternoon but forget to set the alarm. At least two men reportedly scaled the fence at his residence and then used a potted plant to make their way inside through a window.

Altuve returned to his home around 9:30 p.m., according to the affidavit, finding the plant misplaced. When he walked inside, he found his home ransacked with more than half a dozen watches valued at over $00,000 and several gold pieces of jewelry taken from his bedroom.
The Houston Police Department obtained surveillance footage of the break-in, which showed the burglars inside Altuve’s residence for around 10 minutes. At this time, law enforcement is unsure if Altuve’s home was targeted or if others in the area were also looked at.
Altuve, age 33, hasn’t played this season after he suffered a broken right thumb during the World Baseball Classic. An eight-time All-Star selection and two-time World Series champion, he is under contract with Houston through the 2024 season.

Patrick Maxey, 27; Jordan Tarniella, 25; and William Jones, Jr., 28; were charged with burglary of a habitation. In addition, Jasmyn Duncan, 20, was charged with evading arrest and hindering apprehension.
Bond was set at $200,000 for Maxey and Jones, while Tarniella ($150,000) and Hall ($2,500) received a lower bond after being held at the Harris County Jail.
