It’s been a long, drawn-out process between New York Jets All-Pro safety Jamal Adams and his team relating to ongoing contract extension talks.

Dating all the way back to last season, there’s been speculation that the Jets could look to trade the 24-year-old former top-six pick. While Adams would prefer to stay in Jersey, recent developments suggest that might not be in the cards.

Contract talks between the two sides have broken down. It’s reportedly led to Adams indicating he’d be open to a trade.

According to this note from former Cowboys star and current NFL Media personality Michael Irvin (h/t R.J. Chopper of 105.3 The Fan), New York’s asking price from Dallas for Adams is through the roof. Irvin Notes that the Jets are demanding a first and third-round pick in exchange for the safety.

That’s highly unlikely to get it done. Sure Cowboys owner Jerry Jones has not been afraid to pull the trigger on blockbuster trades while giving up a lot of draft pick compensation. But two valuable picks for a safety seems to be a bit too much.

Even then, it’s certainly something to keep an eye on. If Irvin’s reporting is correct, the Jets seem open to moving Adams.

The former LSU star has earned two Pro Bowl trips and was a First-Team All-Pro this past season.
