Not long after the Dallas Cowboys lost in the Wild Card round of the playoffs, speculation kicked into high gear about whether or not team owner Jerry Jones would look to make a coaching change. Although Mike McCarthy has only been in Dallas for two seasons and is coming off a 12-5 performance, anyone who’s paid attention to the Cowboys knows simply appearing in the postseason is not nearly good enough for America’s Team.

The manner in which the Cowboys closed out their season, getting punched in the mouth by the San Francisco 49ers, has left a sour taste in the minds of fans of the ‘Boys. This catastrophic letdown has caused some to wonder if it will be enough to have McCarthy removed from his role as the head coach, especially when the organization appears to already have two strong contenders to take over right on their staff.

Both offensive coordinator Kellen Moore and defensive coordinator Dan Quinn have become popular head coach candidates around the league during this year’s hiring cycle. Having interviewed or been requested to interview for six different organizations, Quinn appeared to be a finalist for at least a few of them. But that was before the defensive coach removed his name from the candidacy before some teams had even hired their general manager, like the Vikings and Raiders.

It didn’t take long to determine this meant Quinn received a larger paycheck to stick around in JerryWorld for at least another season. With coach McCarthy likely entering the 2022 season on the hot seat, Quinn becomes the top favorite to take over in Dallas, either in-season or at the end of the year, when coaching changes are typically made.

Would Jerry Jones hire Dan Quinn to coach the Cowboys?

This brings us back to our initial question, if Mike McCarthy was no longer coaching, would Jerry Jones hire Dan Quinn to be the head coach for the Dallas Cowboys? According to Jones himself, yes. He would hire Quinn.

“He’s very qualified,” the Dallas Cowboys owner answered when asked at the Senior Bowl whether he’d hire Dan Quinn as a head coach. “Yes, I would consider.

“If I didn’t have a coach, I would have been interviewing him for coach.”
