An MRI on Utah Jazz All-Star guard Donovan Mitchell’s sprained right ankle showed no structural damage, but he will remain sidelined for several games, according to ESPN.
Mitchell was helped off the court by teammates less than four minutes into the third quarter of Friday’s 119-111 win over the Indiana Pacers and clearly was favoring the ankle.
“We hope there’s nothing serious, but they’re in the process of doing everything they can to assess that,” Jazz coach Quin Snyder said shortly after Utah’s 119-111 victory.
Mitchell was injured when he jumped in an attempt to hinder a pass and landed awkwardly. He immediately reached for his lower right leg.

Mitchell scored 22 points in 21 minutes before exiting. He is ninth in the NBA with a 26.4 scoring average.
The Jazz will be further shorthanded against the Los Angeles Lakers in the second half of a back-to-back on Saturday as ESPN is reporting Rudy Gobert, Mike Conley Jr. and Derrick Favors are expected to sit out for injury recovery purposes.
Favors was held out of Friday’s game with right knee soreness.
At 42-14, the Jazz have the NBA’s best record.
