The whole idea that snowboarding isn’t a sport and shouldn’t be an Olympic event is absolutely absurd. These athletes put their well-being on the line in a sport very few can even come close to mastering. The best of the best are currently in Pyeongchang competing against one another in the 2018 Winter Olympics.
While Americans Chloe Kim and Shaun White have received most of the attention on the halfpipe, others are out there competing hard. That includes 16-year-old Japanese snowboarder Yuto Totsuka, who took an absolutely brutal spill during his run in the men’s halfpipe.

As you can see, Totsuka’s hip crashes directly into the top of the pipe. He then fell some 20 feet, hitting his back and head on a surface that can only be compared to concrete.
Ultimately, Totsuka had to be carted off by medics.
