Legendary Shaun White could set Team USA milestone in men’s halfpipe

On Tuesday night (in the United States), snowboarder Shaun White will go for his third career gold medal in the men’s halfpipe. If he (or any other American) claims victory, it will not just be a personal milestone, but potentially a big one for the United States, as well.

Chloe Kim’s win in the women’s halfpipe was the 99th gold medal for Team USA in its history at the Winter Olympics. The next one will be an even 100.

While the qualifying scores are wiped out, White was the top qualifier in the halfpipe. The final will also include Americans Ben Ferguson, Chase Josey, and Jake Pates.

It’s also worth noting barring another weather delay, the women’s slalom will also take place on Tuesday night in the United States. American Mikaela Shiffrin is heavily favored in that. So, Team USA will have multiple chances for gold No. 100, and could possibly claim gold No. 101.
