Nearly 300 players have changed teams in NFL free agency, and the Houston Texans have been at the forefront of those additions and subtractions. So far, we’ve seen 12 new players added to the Texans roster, and that’s not even counting all the players they’ve lost, such as Jonathan Greenard or Blake Cashman.
However, the Texans like the additions they’ve made, and none have been bigger than 4x Pro Bowl edge rusher Danielle Hunter, who signed a two-year, $49 million contract. It turns out the Texans aren’t the only ones who are happy about landing Hunter.
Adam Caplan of Pro Football Network had a chance to poll multiple NFL coaches, scouts, and front office executives, and all six of the individuals agreed that Hunter was the best signing of the offseason.
“One offensive coach whose team has gone up against him in the past during his days with the Vikings mentioned Hunter’s “length” and “explosion” and was hard to block when healthy.
One front office executive said he liked that the Texans didn’t go longer than two seasons with the contract due to the fact of Hunter’s age (he turns 30 in late October).”

After recording 87.5 sacks across his eight-year Vikings career, Hunter has proven he can be an excellent game-wrecker when healthy. Seeing that the Texans only committed to him for two seasons offers a lot of short-term upside without a ton of risk involved.
If Houston can get over ten sacks from Hunter each season, he’ll have been more than worth it, meanwhile, now the Texans are eager to see if his presence can help Will Anderson Jr. thrive even more as he continues to develop.
