Greg Biffle stopped racing in the NASCAR Cup Series at the conclusion of the 2016 season; however, he never announced a retirement from racing. Biffle simply left and didn’t return to NASCAR until the 2019 season.
The former Roush Fenway Racing driver joined Kyle Busch Motorsports for a one-off race at Texas Motor Speedway and claimed a surprising victory. It was also a popular win as it represented Biffle’s return to NASCAR.
Then, Biffle joined NY Racing Team for select races during the 2022 season. He didn’t return after the first race at Talladega Superspeedway but his racing career is not over. In fact, Biffle is already looking at competing in NASCAR again during the 2024 season.

Over the last few months, plenty of former NASCAR drivers have been open to making returns to the sport with the NextGen car. Carl Edwards, Biffle’s former teammate, is considering a possible return as retirement becomes “harder and harder.“
Meanwhile, Kasey Kahne said he would “absolutely” be interested in running a stock car again in the future. Both of these developments came after the celebration of NASCAR’s greatest 75 drivers at Darlington Raceway in May.

Biffle was named to this prestigious list but never discussed his future in the sport. Many have waited for NY Racing Team to return to the race track with the part-time NASCAR driver but it appears that the possibility is dwindling.
However, Biffle’s career in NASCAR may not be over yet. The 53-year-old driver talked about the idea of racing in the NASCAR Xfinity Series at Portland International Raceway during the 2024 season during an availability at Sonoma Raceway and it looks like he will be making a push for it.
“These things take a lot of time to put together a program to go do that. I feel like I’m probably going to start working on a program for next year to try to run that (NASCAR Xfinity Series) race (at Portland International Raeway). I like that race track, it’s a lot of fun…I told NASCAR forever that there are many race fans that are in the Western states…Obviously, I think that the Portland International Raceway could host a (NASCAR Cup Series) race, for sure. That’s a facility that could do it.”

Biffle hasn’t competed in the NASCAR Xfinity Series since the 2010 season but has seen major success in the past. The Washington native won the 2002 Xfinity Series championship and has 20 wins in the division.
There are plenty of reasons to be excited about Biffle wanting to run in NASCAR but his second point might be the most notable idea. Could the NASCAR Cup Series compete at Portland International Raceway alongside the Xfinity Series?
It would be great to bring a Cup Series race to the Pacific Northwest so hopefully, the sport decides to make that decision down the line. The idea of expanding to areas where racing may not be as common in NASCAR is important.
For now, the excitement about Biffle’s potential return to the Xfinity Series should be through the roof. The two-time NASCAR champion was a solid road course driver during his full-time days in the Cup Series but it would be bigger than winning a race for everyone involved.
