While the Green Bay Packers are rarely big spenders in NFL free agency, general manager Brian Gutekunst is leaving the door open to some moves this offseason. Already boasting the youngest team in the NFL, our Packers free agent targets can help this team take the next step in 2024.

Green Bay is making a transition next season with a new defensive scheme. THe switch from the 3-4 to a 4-3 base defense will bring some personnel moves and result in slight adjustments for players already on the Packers roster. However, it could have an even bigger influence on who Green Bay pursues in NFL free agency.

Let’s dive into our Packers free agent targets 2024.

Green Bay fans know they have to be realistic. While some will list top players like All-Pro defensive tackle Chris Jones or Pro Bowl cornerback Jaylon Johnson among Packers free agent targets, that’s never happening. Even in the unlikely event either player hit the open market, Green Bay couldn’t afford them.

Jordan Fuller is a realistic option. Safety has been a huge weakness in the Packers’ secondary for years, dating back to the career-ending Nick Collins injury. Under new defensive coordinator Jeff Hafley, the position will be critical to the defense’s success. Fuller just so happens to already know Hafley’s scheme and coaching style.

“I think his superpower is his mind and how he sees the game and how he understands the game. His in-game adjustments and him having us ready for certain looks that offenses would give us and stuff like that, it really felt like he gave us a winning edge.”

Familiarity and need are two great reasons to connect Fuller to the Packers. He would also help Green Bay in another regard. Last season, the 6-foot-2 defensive back was rated as the 14th-best safety in run defense (75.0 PFF grade) by Pro Football Focus and he’s consistently dominated against the run in his career. That’s a plug-and-play fit in Green Bay’s defense.

The Packers brought Connor Williams in for a pre-draft visit before the 2019 NFL Draft, but he landed with the Dallas Cowboys. With Green Bay potentially losing interior offensive lineman Jon Runyan this offseason, Williams is an intriguing option to put on the team’s radar.

Williams suffered an ACL tear in Week 14 of the 2023 season, so it’s possible he could miss a few regular-season games in 2024. While that’s a risk the Packers’ medical staff would need to look into, it could also make him a more affordable option for Green Bay.

Before his season-ending injury, PFF rated Williams as one of the best centers in the NFL with an 86.5 overall grade including a 90.5 grade as a run blocker. Across 280 pass-blocking snaps, he allowed just 6 total pressures. Plus, Williams can play all three spots on the interior offensive line and versatility is especially important to the Packers’ coaching staff.

Green Bay rolled the dice on a rookie kicker in 2023 and it backfired. Anders Carlson never really showed improvement, struggling in training camp and letting those woes continue late into the regular season and then in the playoffs. If the Packers want to win a Super Bowl, consistency is required.

Unlike other top kickers in NFL free agency, Nick Folk is very comfortable kicking outdoors. In 223, he made 95.2 percent of his field-goal attempts (20-for-21) when kicking outside, including a perfect 7-for-7 mark in December. He doesn’t have a ton of playoff experience, but he is 6-for-7 on field-goals in the postseason. It would be costly, but Folk has earned the right to be one of the NFL’s highest-paid kickers.

Devin Singletary, running back, Houston Texans

Green Bay provided A.J. Dillon with every opportunity to prove himself. Ultimately, ‘Quadilla’ not only didn’t provide the team with any incentive to cut Aaron Jones for cap savings but he also didn’t earn a second contract. With Matt LaFleur’s preference to have shared touches, the Packers need to upgrade at their second running back spot.

Devin Singletary isn’t nearly as flashy as the likes of Derrick Henry, Josh Jacobs or Saquon Barkley, but he’ll cost a fraction of what those running backs want. Plus, with how well Jones performed late last year, there’s no incentive for Green Bay to overpay for a starting running back. Singletary is the ideal complementary back and he’ll likely sign a contract that fits into the limited Packers cap space.
