The Green Bay Packers are placing starting left tackle David Bakhtiari on the Physically Unable to Perform List to start the season, per multiple reports.

Bakhtiari is recovering from a torn anterior cruciate ligament he suffered late last season.

Bakhtiari will have to sit out at least the first six weeks of the season, but won’t count against the Packers’ 53-man roster that they need to reach by 4 p.m. ET Tuesday.

Bakhtiari, who turns 30 in September, was selected to the Pro Bowl for the third time last season. Selected by Green Bay in the fourth round of the 2013 draft out of Colorado, he has missed only 10 of a possible 128 games. Bakhtiari was selected to the All-Pro team in 2018 and 2020.

In mid-November, Bakhtiari signed a four-year, $103.5 million contract that made him the highest-paid offensive lineman in league history.

The Packers are scheduled to open the season on the road against the New Orleans Saints on Sunday, Sept. 12. Due to the effects of Hurricane Ida in Louisiana, the venue for that game remains to be determined.
