Reports broke earlier on Thursday that the San Francisco 49ers recently put in a call for Aaron Rodgers after some apparent discord between the reigning NFL MVP and the Green Bay Packers.

Said reports indicated that no official trade offer was made. Interestingly enough, Rodgers continues to be the talk of the NFL rumor mill leading up to the 2021 NFL Draft.

According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the future Hall of Fame quarterback has told some people within the Packers’ organization that he does not want to be back with the team this coming season.

“Rodgers is unhappy for a variety of reasons, with some of it dating back to last year’s draft when the Packers didn’t inform him before trading up to draft a quarterback with their first-round pick,” Schefter noted. “Some took this as a sign that his days in Green Bay could he numbered.”

Rodgers, 37, is coming off a career-best 2021 season that saw him complete 70.7% of his passes for 4,299 yards with 48 touchdowns against five interceptions.

As for a potential trade request, Schefter reiterates that Rodgers is not happy that Green Bay selected Jordan Love in the first round of the 2020 NFL Draft. There’s also been issues pertaining to his contract and the Packers’ unwillingness to commit to him financially beyond the 2021 NFL season.

If Aaron Rodgers were traded, the San Francisco 49ers make the most sense. Perhaps, the third pick in the 2021 NFL Draft Thursday evening could now be in play.
