Earlier today, we covered Brian Windhorst’s report on Paul George’s free agency preference, which reportedly is to continue playing on the West Coast if he leaves the Los Angeles Clippers this summer. George, a California native, could find a natural home with the Golden State Warriors.

George’s free agency sweepstakes is heating up quickly, for good reason. The nine-time All-Star has until Saturday to decide whether he wants to exercise his $48.7 million player option to remain with the Clippers next season. The very next day, NBA free agency tips off.
That’s why he and the Clippers are trying to find a solution as soon as possible. If Windhorst’s report comes true, it means George would opt into his contract, but the Clippers would negotiate a trade with the Warriors. Then, the Warriors would sign George to a full four-year max extension.
Yet, as Windhorst noted, the Warriors are one of multiple teams willing to give George the contract he wants. But for whatever reason, the Clippers have not been willing to offer a four-year full-max contract thus far. Are the Clippers trying to call George’s bluff? We’ll have our answers soon enough.
