Golden State Warriors among 6 NBA teams reportedly interested in Malik Beasley

As the first wave of NBA free agency draws to a close, the Golden State Warriors have reportedly joined the mix of teams interested in signing Malik Beasley this summer. Beasley, one of the top remaining NBA free agents, is drawing significant interest from around the league.

While a majority of the high-end starters and top rotational players are already signed, the 26-year-old guard remains on the open market. Coming off a playoff run with the Los Angeles Lakers, several of the best teams in the NBA are pursuing Beasley right now.

According to Michael Scotto of HoopsHype, the Warriors are joined by the Philadelphia 76ers, Toronto Raptors, Milwaukee Bucks, Dallas Mavericks and Toronto Raptors with interest in Beasley. However, money could play a significant role in an eventual decision.

Phoenix and Golden State are extremely limited financially in what they can offer, with NBA rules restricting them to submitting veteran minimum contracts to the 6-foot-4 guard. Meanwhile, Dallas, Milwaukee and Philadelphia would only be able to offer the mid-level exception.

Beasley, the 19th pick in the 2016 NBA Draft, was traded by the Utah Jazz to Los Angeles midway through last season. He largely maintained his production, maintaining similar shooting spits and minutes played with both teams.

In the NBA playoffs, Beasley became a non-factor for Los Angeles. He averaged just 11 mpg in the first series against the Memphis Grizzlies then played 24 combined minutes combined against the Warriors and Denver Nuggets.

The Lakers ultimately declined Beasley’s $16.5 million contract option in June, creating the cap space to improve their depth for next season. With Golden State, Milwaukee, Philadelphia and Dallas all limited in what they can offer, Beasley will likely have to prioritize what team offers him the best role on a short-term contract.
