Giants owner not excited about doing Odell Beckham Jr. extension

Odell Beckham Jr. is one of many NFL players who has a lot to prove in a contract year

With the contract of Odell Beckham Jr. set to expire at the end of 2018, expect a potential extension to be one of the main storylines for the New York Giants throughout the year. Speaking on the matter, team owner John Mara seemed less than enthused about locking his star up.

At least publicly, Mara didn’t want to commit long term to Beckham in December. Now, with a potentially troubling video having made its rounds, his stance hasn’t changed much.

Beckham has been one of the NFL’s most productive receivers in his first four NFL seasons.

He’s averaged 78 catches, 1,106 yards, and 10 touchdowns a season since entering the league in 2014. Even those totals are significantly dropped by a 25 reception, 302 yard, three touchdown season which came in 2017, when he played only four games.

With the good comes some bad, however. In addition to being one of the league’s best players, he’s also among the most frustrating (both can be seen in this sequence).

Certainly, Beckham would generate a lot of interest in free agency. At least some teams looking for a true game breaker would be willing to overlook some of Beckham’s more frustrating traits. But clearly, his current team isn’t willing to keep that from happening, at least not yet.
