Giants GM decries notion that team will trade Odell Beckham Jr.

There’s going to be a multitude of changes within the New York Giants’ organization this offseason after the team finished up another last-place 5-11 campaign. Among those who might not be back is veteran quarterback Eli Manning.

But immediately after the Giants’ Week 17 loss to Dallas this past Sunday, reports surfaced that the team might look to trade star wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. during the spring.

When asked about that possibility on Wednesday, Giants general manager Dave Gettleman pretty much decried the idea that OBJ will be moved.

It’s already the NFL silly season. Just ask Antonio Brown and the San Francisco 49ers. With that said, Gettleman’s comments don’t really move the marker too much here. Is he expected to tell the public that Beckham is going to be traded? What would that do for the receiver’s trade value?

New York made OBJ the highest-paid wide receiver in NFL history back in August, signing him to a five-year, $90 million contract extension. Said deal was structured in a way that the team could conceivably trade him without a ton of cap ramifications.

Beckham, 26, has missed half the Giants’ games since the start of the 2017 season. This past season alone, the former first-round pick caught 77 passes for 1,052 yards with six touchdowns in 12 games.
