It feels like just yesterday when Frank Gore was still rumbling through NFL defenses, seemingly never running out of gas despite being on the wrong side of 30. Now, his son, Frank Gore Jr. is eyeing a similar career as an NFL running back.

Gore Jr. just wrapped up his fourth season with the Southern Miss Golden Eagles, where he compiled nearly 4,000 rushing yards (3,927) and 25 rushing touchdowns. Most recently, Gore stole the spotlight at the annual Shrine Bowl in what may have been the final game of Gore’s collegiate career.

As mentioned, Frank Gore Jr. had a chance to participate in the 2024 East-West Shrine Bowl on Jan. 1. This year’s version saw the West win 26-11.

Part of their success can be attributed to Gore Jr., who took home the Shrine Bowl MVP honors after finishing with 87 rushing yards and a touchdown. This even included a large 49-yard gain.

At 5-foot-7, 199 pounds, Gore Jr. will face plenty of challenges in his quest to make an NFL roster, but his ability to gain yards after contact while displaying impressive footwork should earn him plenty of chances. Still, the questions about his size likely have Gore Jr. being selected as a Day 3 draft pick between Rounds 4-7.

Teams looking for a player who’s capable of catching passes out of the backfield while also posing a rushing threat will likely keep close tabs on Gore Jr. throughout the draft process. If all goes well, NFL fans will likely be watching the son of a former 49ers legend running through defenses in 2024.
