In a quick and interesting turn of events, tight end Martellus was released by the Green Bay Packers, only to be claimed by the New England Patriots the next day.
The Packers released Bennett because they claim he did not disclosed a pre-existing shoulder injury prior to his signing. As it stands, Bennett has a torn rotator cuff that he may attempt to play through, according to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport.
But, that has not stopped the conspiracy theorists from suggesting that Bennett scammed the Packers so he could return to the Patriots. There are also conspiracies out there suggesting that the Patriots may have been in on the plan. Obviously to some, playing for the Patriots (6-2) with quarterback Tom Brady has more appeal than playing with the Packers (4-4) with backup Brett Hundley under center.
Let’s see what some folks are saying.
@MartysaurusRex so Marty when your kids get older will you tell them about how you made up a injury so you could get out of a bad situation? #classyguy

Aaron Rodgers gets hurt. Martellus Bennett makes fake retirement speech so #Packers will cut him because he knows a real team like the #Patriots want him. 🤔😂😂@TheRealCarlG Man he tricked y’all & Tom Brady even liked this pic. #YouMadBro pic.twitter.com/bw0r92wjZM

Martellus Bennett straight up scammed the Packers, no clearer evidence than him practicing today for the Patriots despite considering season-ending surgery within the last week in GB.

Martellus Bennett signed with GB for another SB run, and once Rodgers went down, he quit… Exactly why I never wanted him

All the info coming out sure shows what kind of player Martellus Bennett really is. Talked a big game, quit on his team. Disappointing. Glad he no longer represents the #Packers or the Green Bay fans. He isn't worthy of that honor.

Beyond the doubters, some are just glad to see Bennett back with the Patriots.
