Falcons ‘confident’ they’ll sign Julio Jones this summer, per report

Falcons coach avoids Julio Jones trade talk: 5 best teams for All-Pro receiver

Eric Hartline-USA TODAY Sports

The drawn out saga regarding Atlanta Falcons star Julio Jones and a potential contract extension could be coming to a head here soon.

The two sides have been negotiating an extension that would make Jones the highest-paid receiver in NFL history. Though, nothing concrete has come to fruition on that end.

This could change here soon. According to ESPN’s Dianna Russini, the Falcons are confident they’ll agree to a long-term deal with Jones ahead of training camp late next month.

As noted, Jones has two more years remaining on his current contract. He’s set to earn a base of $9.6 million in 2019 and $11.4 million the following season.

It goes without saying that the 30-year-old six-time Pro Bowler is vastly underpaid. He’s averaging 105 receptions for nearly 1,600 yards over the past five seasons.

Any new deal for the future Hall of Famer would surpass the $18 million average Odell Beckham Jr. is earning with the Cleveland Browns.
