Eric Weddle has no plans to retire after release from the Ravens

Eric Weddle

The Baltimore Ravens shocked the NFL world on Tuesday with reports that the team has released six-time Pro Bowl safety Eric Weddle.

It was a clear cost-cutting move from the Ravens’ perspective — one that potentially adds to a stacked free-agent market at safety.

Despite previous suggestions that he might retire if Baltimore were to move on from him, the 34-year-old Weddle fully intends to play next season.

Given that he’s coming off three consecutive Pro Bowl appearances with Baltimore, it’s no surprise that Weddle wants to continue playing. He still has a ton left in the tank.

The borderline future Hall of Famer finished up his three-year tenure in Baltimore with 24 passes defended and 10 interceptions. That came after he earned three Pro Bowl trips during a nine-year career with the then-San Diego Chargers.
