The Philadelphia Eagles enter the 2018 NFL offseason with little cap space. As part of their strategy to cut their big number down, they’ve decided to release tight end Brent Celek, due to make $5 million this year.

This move will save the Eagles $4 million against the cap, as the 33-year-old tight end has $1 million coming to him still.
Last season, Celek was a minor role player for the Super Bowl champs, catching just 13 passes for 130 yards sitting behind Zach Ertz and Trey Burton (now with the Chicago Bears) on the depth chart. During the team’s Super Bowl run, he was targeted just twice and caught one pass for six yards.
Celek has been with Philadelphia since being selected by the club in the fifth round of the 2007 NFL Draft. He had a long and successful career with the Eagles, and there’s still a chance his career can continue on another team, or that he could be brought back at a bargain rate.
