Report: Bears to sign Super Bowl hero Trey Burton

Trey Burton is one of the underrated NFL playmakers who will shine in 2018

Trey Burton threw one of the most legendary touchdown passes in Super Bowl history to help the Philadelphia Eagles beat the New England Patriots, and now the tight end has another reason to celebrate.

Mike Garafolo of NFL Media reported Burton is expected to sign with the Chicago Bears. Ian Rapoport, also of NFL Media, noted the deal is worth $32 million over four seasons.

Burton served as the backup to Zach Ertz, who caught the game-winning touchdown in Super Bowl LII. Without Burton’s contributions, though, Philadelphia might not have been in the proper situation.

Shortly before halftime, the Eagles decided to call a trick play on 4th-and-goal. Burton took a pitch on a reverse and tossed the ball to a wide-open Nick Foles for a touchdown, executing what will forever be remembered as the “Philly Special.”

Burton became a regular contributor in 2016, and he collected 60 receptions for 575 yards and six scores during that time. He’s set to become a leading target for Mitch Trubisky, Chicago’s promising young quarterback.
