Dodgers’ Clayton Kershaw to make rehab start this weekend

Clearly on his way back to the majors after suffering a lower-back strain late last month, Los Angeles Dodgers ace Clayton Kershaw is now slated to make a rehab start for Triple-A Oklahoma City on Saturday.

It’s not yet known how many rehab starts Kershaw will have to make in the minors, but an educated guess leaves that number at one. This would put him on pace to start for the Dodgers late next week.

The three-time Cy Young winner suffered the injury in a start against Philadelphia on May 31. That came after he missed pretty much the entire month of May with a separate biceps injury.

Getting the 30-year-old Kershaw back to full health will be important to the Dodgers’ outlook for the remainder of the season. The team currently finds itself at 37-33 on the year and boasts an 11-3 record in the month of June.

Kershaw is pitching to a 1-4 record with a 2.76 ERA and 1.12 WHIP in eight starts thus far this season.
