Disney likely to pursue NASCAR rights in the sport’s next TV deal

Disney will reportedly be among a group of companies that will look to join NASCAR's next TV deal as a streaming platform.

NASCAR/Disney

NASCAR has been discussing the next TV deal with FOX and NBC as the exclusive negotiating window has opened through April 2023. As of now, the sport will let the window expire and attempt a third package for a streaming company.

Amazon will likely be the most aggressive company in securing a streaming portion of the NASCAR schedule in some capacity. This comes after the company acquired the NFL’s Thursday Night Football package.

Even though FOX and NBC seem likely to return and Amazon will aggressively pursue the racing series, it doesn’t mean that other networks won’t try and push for a potential deal if it is the right situation for them.

As stated above, NASCAR is looking to add a third package that relates to a streaming platform with Amazon being the most likely pursuer. However, there are other names in the mix, including. a very notable one.

According to the Sports Business Journal’s John Ourand, Disney is among a group of companies that will likely pursue a potential deal with NASCAR; however, it might be unlikely that it proceeds to serious discussions.

Paramount and Warner Bros. Discovery are the other two companies that were mentioned alongside Disney. All three of them would be pushing for a third package that incorporates a streaming aspect.

This aligns with everything that has been reported about NASCAR’s next TV deal to this point in time. It was reported a few months ago that a streaming service was something the sport was pursuing this time around.

The fans may not enjoy hearing this news; however, it makes sense as an association since these streaming companies are very deep-pocketed. This would allow the sport to maximize its earnings on the TV deal starting in 2025.

As expressed, the sport has an exclusive negotiating window with FOX and NBC that will likely expire without a deal. None of the rumored companies can talk with NASCAR until that expires in April 2023.

The future of NASCAR on TV seems to be running through FOX and NBC, which is something that was stressed during the sport’s State of the Sport address during the final race weekend of the 2022 season.

Stay tuned for the latest updates on NASCAR’s next TV deal as the way the sport is presented to race fans all around the world can possibly see major changes starting in 2025.
