Now that free agent wide receiver Dez Bryant teaming up with the Cleveland Browns is unlikely, the former Pro Bowler is in a wait-and-see approach.
Bryant was offered less than $5 million per season by the Browns after the two sides met earlier in the month. It’s the second offer he’s turned down since the Dallas Cowboys released him back in the spring.
With Week 1 approaching, Bryant is now indicating that he could wait until later in the season to sign.
It’s an interesting stance to take publicly. If Bryant is worried more about money than latching on with a contender (see his flirtation with Cleveland), it’s highly unlikely that he’ll receive better offers than what both the Browns and Ravens threw his way.
Remember, Baltimore offered a lucrative multi-year deal. Bryant turned it down in hopes of getting a nice payday on a one-year contract before hitting free agency next March.
One thing we do know. Most figured Bryant would be met with a cold market. Two teams have now offered him a contract with yet another being linked to the embattled pass catcher.
Apparently, he’s being picky and looking for a near-perfect situation from a contractual standpoint. That’s going to be hard once the regular season starts.
