New Jersey Devils center Jack Hughes entered COVID-19 protocol on Sunday, less than 24 hours after participating in the NHL All-Star Game.

According to a release from the team, Hughes tested positive for COVID upon returning to New Jersey from Las Vegas, where the league held its All-Star Weekend. He participated in Friday night’s skills competition along with the game Saturday.

Hughes was on the ice for Devils practice when he was pulled off and informed of his positive test, the team said.

The news puts a damper on the 20-year-old former No. 1 overall pick’s sparkling weekend. He propelled the Metropolitan Division team to win the All-Star crown by scoring two goals in the semifinal game against the Pacific and another goal in the 6-4 finale win over the Central.

Hughes missed about six weeks early this season to a shoulder injury, limiting him to 28 games thus far. He has 27 points (12 goals, 15 assists).
