Detroit Lions reportedly targeting trade for 6-time Pro Bowler

The Detroit Lions are reportedly interested in making a major trade to fix one of their biggest problems last season.

The Lions were one of the surprise teams in 2022. Not much was expected from the Dan Campbell-led team entering the season, however, it became abundantly clear midway through that Detroit was not going to be an easy win for opposing teams on Sundays, and the major reason why was their offense.

By the end of the season, the Detroit Lions offense was viewed as one of the best in the league. As they scored 30 or more points in half of their games, and three times dropped 40 or more on opponents last season. However, for as good as their offense was, their defense was often the polar opposite.

The Detroit Lions defense gave up the most total yards and yards per play in the NFL last season, and their secondary was a key factor in their swiss cheese effort. If the team hopes to improve on their solid 9-8 showing in 2022 they must improve their play in the secondary. Well, it seems like they could make one of the biggest moves of the offseason in pursuit of defensive upgrades.

On a Friday edition of “Get Up,” ESPN NFL insider Jeremy Fowler reported that the Lions are a contender in the trade market for Los Angeles Rams superstar cornerback Jalen Ramsey.

“Jalen Ramsey, he is available via trade. I’ve talked to a lot of people who believe the Detroit Lions are somewhat involved here. GM Brad Holmes was with the Rams for a long time as an executive. They are in the cornerback market, so that makes some sense there.”

Ramsey is arguably the best cornerback of the last decade in the NFL, as the 28-year-old has earned Pro Bowl honors on six occasions and is a three-time All-Pro. The Los Angeles Rams are seeking to move the corner in an effort to break down what is a bloated payroll heading into 2023.

Last week, it was reported that the Rams could be seeking a first-round pick in any trade for the talented cornerback.
