Former NBA MVP Derrick Rose has seen his career derailed by injury since he was among the best players in the NBA as a member of the Chicago Bulls.
Unfortunately, a recent return to stellar play has given in to the now-New York Knicks star being sidelined once again.
The Knicks announced Wednesday evening that Rose has undergone ankle surgery and will miss at least the next eight weeks.
“Derrick Rose underwent successful surgery on his right ankle today at the Hospital for Special Surgery. He will be re-evaluated in eight weeks,” the Knicks announced on Twitter.

The No. 1 overall pick of the Bulls back in 2008, Rose suffered a torn ACL in April of 2012 and missed the entire season. That was the start of a ton of injuries that threatened to derail his career.

Despite this, Rose has been able to turn in a stellar career as of late. Prior to his most-recent injury, the guard was averaging 12.0 points, 3.0 rebounds and 4.0 assists on 40% shooting from distance. Last season saw Rose average 14.7 points and 4.2 assists on 47% shooting in stints with the Pistons and Knicks.
As for the Knicks, they’ll now likely welcome Kemba Walker back into the rotation. We can expect Miles McBride and Immanuel Quickley to also see an uptick in action for a team that’s disappointed with a 14-17 record on the campaign.
