David Bakhtiari offers crushing update on his knee injury and how it impacts Green Bay Packers’ season

Just over a week ago, on September 28, the Green Bay Packers placed David Bakhtiari on injured reserve, with his status for the remainder of the season unclear. At that time, it was known that the Packers would be without their two-time All-Pro for at least four games, if not longer. He was also set to undergo knee surgery.

Ever since the transaction was made, coach Matt LaFleur has remained fairly tight-lipped about the status of the franchise’s starting left tackle.

“Yeah, I’ll let Dave comment on that. I know he wanted to talk to you guys later on. I’ll let him talk about his timeline.”

On Friday, Bakhtiari took the time to address the media, revealing what’s been going on with his knee while detailing his status going forward.

In addition to Bakhtiari tearing the ACL in his knee back in 2020, he also revealed he had a femoral condyle cartilage issue, which everyone hoped wouldn’t develop into a bigger problem. Yet, it did and he needs yet another surgery.

Bakhtiari is out for the rest of the 2023 season after playing just 55 snaps in the team’s Week 1 opener. This continues a recent string of missed games for the 11-year-pro, who’s been limited to just 13 appearances over the past three seasons.

His new goal is to be ready for the start of training camp next season while also being honest that he may not have a future in Green Bay for much longer. The 32-year-old has one year remaining on his contract at a cap hit of $40.4 million, a price the Packers most certainly won’t be paying.
