Dalvin Cook admits signing with New York Jets this weekend ‘possible’ because of Aaron Rodgers

Four-time Pro Bowler Dalvin Cook is giving NFL observers every reason to believe he is planning to sign with the New York Jets this weekend.

With NFL training camps now open there are hardly any true game-changer talents left in free agency. Well, that is except for Dalvin Cook. The star running back is the last big fish on the free agent market and this week he is expected to take a tour of cities interested in acquiring his services, and that started on Friday with the New York Jets.

However, it sure seems like the 27-year-old is very open to the possibility of making Florham Park his only stop. Earlier today, Cook joined the crew of the NFL Network show “Good Morning Football” and explained what he is looking for in a new team, and the Super Bowl-contending Jets sure seem like the right fit.

“Just a great vibe,” Cook said about what he’s looking for in his next home. “Just being around people that want to love on Dalvin Cook. And just trying to get around some guys that want to win. I want to bring something different to the table and that’s being Dalvin Cook.”

When the former Minnesota Vikings running back was asked about what is appealing to him about the New York Jets, unsurprisingly it starts and ends with the fact that they now have future Hall-of-Famer Aaron Rodgers leading the offense. A player he got to see up close twice a season for the last six years.

“It’s A-Rod. It’s a unique situation because I think they’re building something special,” he said. “And when you look at it, you always want to be around a great QB. You always want to be around somebody that you can pick his brain and just learn from. A-Rod is a four-time MVP. So just being around a guy like that you can learn a lot from, and that’s what I’m looking to do.”

The New England Patriots are reportedly trying to secure a meeting with Dalvin Cook, and his hometown Miami Dolphins have been linked to a pursuit since rumors of his potential release from the Vikings first started. However, the second-round pick in the 2017 NFL Draft admitted New York has always been at the top of his destination list.

“I’m going to sit down with my agent and we’re going to go over things,” Cook said about more team visits in the near future. “Right now we’re just taking it one step at a time. I think that’s what this process is about. You kind of evaluate everything. I’m just trying to go through one step at a time and the Jets are right at the top of the list. So let’s go check the box.”

When the four-time Pro Bowler was asked if there is a chance he could come to terms with the New York Jets in the next day or so, he kept it simple by confirming, “That’s possible.”
