One of the greatest players in Dallas Cowboys history could sit out of training camp over a growing contract dispute with the team.

We are just a week away from the start of one of the more important Dallas Cowboys training camps in some time. The organization has a lot of money invested in this current roster and the aspirations have never been higher after back-to-back 12-win seasons. That is why there is a lot of pressure heading into this year’s summer sessions.

One of the biggest narratives going into camp will be on the very hot seat head coach Mike McCarthy is sitting on as he takes over play-calling duties in 2023. Furthermore, Dallas fans are surely growing a little restless with quarterback Dak Prescott in year eight and with no trips to the NFC Championship on his resume.

However, on Wednesday it was revealed that there could be a new storyline hanging over the team this summer.

Dallas Cowboys star Zack Martin believes he is ‘woefully’ under paid

ESPN NFL insider Adam Schefter was the first to report that guard “Zack Martin is considering not reporting to training camp due to his unhappiness with his contract and the team’s lack of interest in restructuring it.”

This is a fairly huge development before the official start of the Dallas Cowboys 2023 campaign. Not only is Zack Martin a captain on offense, but he is also arguably the greatest lineman in franchise history after landing invites to eight Pro Bowls and earning All-Pro honors on six occasions during what has been a legendary nine-year run with the organization.

Martin — who will average just over $13 million in 2023 — reportedly believes he is “woefully underpaid relative to the market.” And it is a fair assessment because while many of the top tackles are making in the $20 million or more range per year, there are also several guards earning close to $20 million annually as well. And it is hard to argue the 32-year-old is not among the elites in his position in the NFL.

It will be interesting to see how the Dallas Cowboys address the situation since Martin is not a tackle, but still integral to the offense and Prescott’s success this season.
