Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones has been the subject of multiple controversies over the years, including allegations of sexual assault and a recent order to take a paternity test to determine if he is the father of a 27-year-old woman. Now, one of the most well-known faces in the NFL could have new details of his life revealed in an unauthorized biography.
ESPN senior writer Don Van Natta Jr, an award-winning New York Times bestselling author, recently announced that he’ll be releasing a book about Jones called “The Star” that will come out in 2026.

The book, published by Simon & Schuster, will focus on both Jones’ life story and his ascension to becoming an NFL owner. It will also focus on some of the elements of Jones’ life and tenure as an NFL owner that the face of the Cowboys’ franchise would prefer not to be covered.
“The son of a North Little Rock grocer, Jones rose from being a risk-happy, nearly-broke oil wildcatter to become one of the most influential and powerful people in American sports while inventing—and playing by—his own set of rules. I’m thrilled to be writing this book for the folks at Avid Reader Press, who recognize that the best way to tell the story of the National Football League’s astonishing popularity is through the remarkable life story of Jerry Jones.”

Jones, age 81, is one of the most well-known team owners in American sports. He’s also one of the richest owners in the NFL. While Van Natta Jr. will highlight the Arkansas alum’s rise from helping the Razorbacks win the 1964 national championship to the risky business ventures that allowed him to eventually buy the Cowboys, the veteran reporter and author will also touch on other elements of Jones’ reputation.

While the press release doesn’t reveal any details of what elements of Jones’ life and career as the Cowboys’ owner will be revealed, Simon & Schuster did note that the biography will “usher readers into the room rooms, executive suites, and the Park Avenue headquarters of the NFL” as it dives into some of what happened behind closed doors.
Van Natta Jr. already released Jerry Football, which came out in 2014 and detailed some elements of Jones’ life as the Cowboys owner. Now, “The Star” is poised to go even further and touch on some of the more recent headlines from Jones’ life, including a Super Bowl drought that is approaching 30 years.
