We may never see Conor McGregor box against Floyd Mayweather. But McGregor has recently expressed great confidence that he’d beat Mayweather — and then some.
“We’re talking about boxing,” McGregor said in an interview with Zach Baron of GQ. “That’s it. But again, age waits for no man. He’s 40 years of age. He’s a little…he’s got a little head on him. Honestly, my fist is bigger than his head. I sleep people. I put people unconscious. I’m stating facts. If I hit that man, his head is gonna go into the bleachers. You understand that? If I crack that little head of his, it’s gonna go clean off his shoulders and up into the bleachers.”
That would be quite the spectacle.
McGregor would need to hope that Mayweather’s age is slowing him down. Mayweather has fought plenty of people with strong punches. His advantage has always been that he’s such a good defensive fighter that no opponents get close enough to land solid punches on him. So, even in Mayweather’s more familiar environment, could the 11-year age gap be the equalizer?
Recent indications say that we’re not going to find out. Rumors of a pending match between the two have recently been shot down UFC boss Dana White, and Mayweather himself.
