Indianapolis Colts fans finally get to hear the news they’ve been waiting for all year long: Andrew Luck will start practicing this week.
Team general manager Chris Ballard, speaking on the team’s Monday night radio show, gave the following update:
“We’ll slowly start working him back into practice this week,’’ he said, per CBS 4 Indy. “We’ll see how much he gets. But we’ve got a plan in place to where we want him to start getting him reps and then, in time as we can get him incorporated back into team work and all that, we’ll get him back on the field.’’
In all likelihood, Luck won’t play for at least a couple more weeks. Based on the tenor of these comments, Luck won’t be ready to simply hop right back into the lineup, let alone be ready for a full practice load. The circumstances of his recovery have been quite mysterious since the quarterback underwent surgery in January.
In the meantime, Jacoby Brissett will continue leading the offense as Luck continues his recovery. The Colts carry a record of 1-3 into Week 5. They will be at home hosting the San Francisco 49ers next Sunday. After that they’ll be on the road for a Monday night battle against AFC South rival, the Tennessee Titans, in Week 6.
Previous reports have pointed to this game, in Week 6, as a potential point at which Luck could return. Hopefully the Colts take care not to rush their quarterback back into action.
