The Michigan Wolverines are looking for a new head coach after Sherrone Moore was fired due to an “inappropriate relationship” with a staff member. The Michigan football program has been linked to several high-profile coaches; however, one coach from the Arizona State Sun Devils has started gaining more momentum among the fans.

Michigan remains interested in hiring Kenny Dillingham as its next head coach, as reported by SunDevilSource.com’s Chris Karpman. At this time, Dillingham has still not finalized a contract extension with Arizona State, despite recent chatter.

If Michigan football were to hire the 35-year-old head coach away from Arizona State, it would be a monster addition to the program. However, there are still rumors that Dillingham could finalize a contract extension with his alma mater, leaving Michigan out in the cold.

Dillingham has been the hottest candidate for the Michigan football head coach position outside of Alabama’s Kalen DeBoer. The Wolverines can give the Arizona State head coach a massive contract and provide him with the resources to compete for a National Championship.

However, Dillingham’s loyalty to Arizona State is a big factor in this situation. The Sun Devils’ head coach has elevated the football program with his strong recruitment, development, and offensive schemes. It would be hard for Dillingham to leave Arizona State this late in the coaching cycle.

Michigan would benefit from pairing Dillingham with quarterback Bryce Underwood and the entire offense. Dillingham has a brilliant offensive mind and develops strong relationships with his players. It is clear that Michigan football needs Dillingham, but will they entice him to leave Arizona State?

If the Wolverines can offer a big enough contract with plentiful resources, it makes sense for Dillingham to make the jump to Ann Arbor. Yet, the Sun Devils are on the rise, and he wants to bring the program back to the top of the mountain. Dillingham has a massive decision, one that will shake the foundation of two programs moving forward.
