Bryce Underwood wearing a Michigan Wolverines uniform in 2026 is no longer a guarantee after this week. On Tuesday, the program was flipped upside down when head coach Sherrone Moorse was not just shockingly fired for an inappropriate relationship with a member of the staff, but then arrested for assaulting that same person after his dismissal.
It has created a messy situation and opened the door to every member of the roster thinking about jumping into the upcoming transfer portal, including QB Bryce Underwood. On Thursday, Pete Nakos of 247 Sports claimed the No. 1 prospect in the 2025 recruiting class, and his team will decide to stay or go based on who the school hires to replace Moore.
If Underwood does not like who the university picks as the next head coach of Michigan football, we look at five potential landing spots for him in the transfer portal.
LSU Tigers
Underwood originally committed to LSU before Moore and his staff were able to persuade him to change his mind and go to Michigan. It may have been former coach Brian Kelly who was a key factor in the QB liking LSU. However, it would not be shocking if Lane Kiffin’s first big move as the new head coach is bringing Underwood to Baton Rouge to be his new starting QB.
Miami Hurricanes
The Miami Hurricanes handed out a huge NIL deal to lure Georgia legend Carson Beck to their program this time last year. This is his final season in college football, and it means that money will be freed up. Switching it over to Underwood, who reportedly got a $5 million NIL contract, is a real possibility. Interest in playing near South Beach and for The U is still appealing to today’s athletes.
Indiana Hoosiers
Indiana Hoosiers signal-caller Fernando Mendoza still has another year of eligibility, but is likely to skip it to enter the NFL Draft to potentially be the No. 1 overall pick. A year ago, that wasn’t at all an option. However, after transferring to Indy, head coach Curt Cignetti and his staff turned him into an elite prospect who is a favorite to win the Heisman. Underwood surely sees that, and if Indiana comes calling, they will be a serious contender.
Clemson Tigers
This season was very disappointing for Clemson and head coach Dabo Swinney. Despite being a popular dark horse pick to be in the playoffs this year, they finished with a disappointing 7-5 record. They will have an opening at QB, and the Swinney’s seat is as hot as it’s ever been. Going big and bringing in Underwood to save his job and get back to the playoffs is a real possibility in the weeks ahead.
Tennessee Volunteers
Josh Heupel and the Tennessee Volunteers also had an underwhelming season after a trip to the college football playoffs last season. App State transfer Joey Aguilar played well in his lone season for the program, and he does not have the immense raw talent Underwood has. Going all-in to get the program back in the postseason by targeting the Michigan star in the transfer portal would make a lot of sense for the Vols.
