Cleveland Cavaliers get Ricky Rubio from Minnesota Timberwolves

The Cleveland Cavaliers acquired guard Ricky Rubio and a 2022 second-round pick from the Minnesota Timberwolves for Taurean Prince and, ESPN reported Thursday.

The 2022 pick is via Washington, and the Cavs also get cash in the deal, per the report.

Rubio, 30, has averaged 11.0 points, 7.6 assists and 4.2 rebounds in 631 games (593 starts) with the Timberwolves (2011-17, 2020-21), Utah Jazz (2017-19) and Phoenix Suns (2019-20).

The Timberwolves selected Rubio No. 5 overall in the 2009 draft and stowed him in Spain for two years. He made his NBA debut in December 2011.

Prince, 27, played 29 games for the Cavaliers before being sidelined for the rest of the season in April with ankle surgery. Prince was acquired by the Cavaliers as part of the James Harden trade. Between 12 games in Brooklyn and 29 in Cleveland, Prince averaged 9.5 points and 3.5 rebounds per contest last year.

Since being taken No. 12 overall by the Utah Jazz in the 2016 draft then flipped to Atlanta, Prince has averaged 11.3 points and 4.2 rebounds in 301 games (210 starts) for the Hawks, Nets and Cavs.
