Cleveland Cavaliers guard Collin Sexton has a torn meniscus in his left knee and will be gone from the team for an “extended” period, ESPN reported Monday.

Sexton sustained the injury in the second quarter of Cleveland’s 126-109 road win over the New York Knicks on Sunday. He didn’t play in the second half.

The injury is believed to have occurred when Sexton and teammate Jarrett Allen bumped into each other.

Sexton is the leading scorer on the surprising Cavaliers, who are 7-4 on the young season while playing without Kevin Love and Lauri Markkanen (both in health and safety protocols) and Isaac Okoro (left hamstring strain). He is averaging 16.0 points, 3.3 rebounds and 2.1 assists.

On Sunday, Sexton had eight points and four assists in 13 minutes before leaving the game.

In his absence, veteran guard Ricky Rubio started the second half and turned in a dominant performance with a career-high 37 points, eight 3-pointers and 10 assists. He became the first player in NBA history to record at least 30 points and 10 assists while make eight 3-point shots as a reserve.

Cleveland selected Sexton with the No. 8 overall pick in the 2018 NBA Draft. The 22-year-old has career averages of 20.0 points, 3.0 rebounds and 3.3 assists in 218 games (208 starts).

The Cavaliers host the Washington Wizards on Wednesday.
