The Los Angeles Dodgers shut ace pitcher Clayton Kershaw down “indefinitely” due to an arm issue, but that apparently didn’t take long to clear up.
Dodgers manager Dave Roberts confirmed Kershaw will play catch on Monday, per Ken Gurnick of MLB.com, so his hiatus lasted all of three days in the end.
Previously, Roberts would only describe Kershaw’s injury as an “arm kind of thing.”
The real concern has to be that Kershaw has been a bit injury prone the past few seasons. Since 2016, he’s pitched in no more than 27 games in a season, down from the 33 starts he made in 2015.
The 30-year-old lefty is the team’s ticket to yet another playoff appearance, so it’s hardly surprising that Roberts was playing it safe holding him out from throwing a few days.
Fresh off a brand-new contract, Kershaw is out to prove his naysayers wrong. Hopefully he can stay healthy enough to do it.
